Chennai Needs a Hygiene and Cleanliness Movement

This for all those who live in Chennai and want to make this city of Chennai hygienic and clean like our own homes. The aim is not to berate Chennai as an unclean city. Chennai is a clean city but it definitely is not as clean as our own homes. Yet it is our home as we live here. Should we not apply those standards of cleanliness for Chennai which we adopt for our own homes?!!

Undoubtedly!!

Many of you who are reading this must be wondering as to what this Blog/Bloke is talking about!!

Where is the scope for further cleanliness? What is not clean? Why should we bother? Is it going to affect us? I haven't seen any uncleanliness.... The Govt has done enough to clean Chennai .......and Chennai has been on the 'Cleanest Indian Cities' list.... What more can you ask for...? etc...

Let us ponder on those lines...

Have you walked around Chennai and observed things such as:
- A lot places smell of urine
- Many a pedestrian pathways have to be navigated with care not to step on faecal lumps...
- Playgrounds are liberally scattered with chunks of evidence of defecation by many a mammals - humans, pets, cattle etc
- Chennai has enough water logging - sewage or rainwater - to breed enough mosquitos to be called the 'Mosquito capital of India'...
- Many of the Garbage contractors pay only lip service to do the jobs they are contracted for and paid for by local bodies from the taxes collected from us....

Chennai has enough scope for improvement on the following fronts:
- removing the all pervading stench of urine by obliterating the make-shift, where-ever-you-like, 'ubiquitous peoples' urinals' - we could ask for more appropriately located urinals
- Preventing water-logging and consequent breeding of mosquitos - work for good drainage system and monitoring of the system
- Making our pedestrian pathways clean and safe to navigate devoid of the stench of drying and dried- up excrements - seek more startegically located toilets
- Garbage dumps with garbage overflowing or strewn around the garbage bins
-Make our grounds clean and for a good walk, a good place for our children to play or a good jog

Well could we all share our experiences, identify scopes for improvement and form a core group which could work on improving cleanliness and hygiene in Chennai for the common good of all the present and future residents of Chennai....

That is from me - Nagarjuna... would you like to share your thoughts on this cause, please feel free to write....
